Huambo

Huambo - description of the city:

In the central part of Angola is a small African town- Huambo. Among many other settlements of this type, it is allocated by its very especial surrounding aura.

The town is surrounded by sumptuous rainforests, which are striking the eye of every visitor of Huambо by its indescribable play of colors. Near the town is Kwanza river, which flows into the Atlаntic Ocean near the capital of Angolа.

The city is the center is the eponymous province. Not far from Huambo are towering mountains, which are giving to surrounding view the unimaginable charm.

The settlement on the site of the city were existed a long time before its official inception in 1912th by builders of Benguelа railway. In 1928th the town changed its name and became the New Lisbоn. However, after receipt of Angola`s independence the town was returned to the original name. In addition, the city became the heart-point of UNITA, which remained until the end of the Alliance in 2002nd. UNITA activities in the territory of Huambo has led to significant destruction of many parts of the city, because of the fighting, occasionally held in its territory. Currently, most of the affected buildings are restored.

The population of Huambo mainly speaks Portuguese,which is the official language of the country. There are also Umbundu, but in the city can be heard English, French, Russian, as well. In the town is constantly a lot of tourists. in addition, lot of workers comes from other countries for working in the town.

Huambo is a major agricultural center. It is a scientific research institute of agricultural chemistry- the only organization of its kind in Angоla. Also there is a venture for the production of food and chemical products. There are companies involved in metal processing.
