Description of Norfolk Island
Norfolk Island is located in the continent Oceania and in between the Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand. The capital city of Norfolk Island is Kingston. It is a small island of the Pacific Ocean with an area of 35 square kilo meters. It is also the external territory of the Australia. The island has a maximum population of nearly 2000 people.
The history of the island dates back to 14th or 15th century when East Polynesian seafarers were settled. They have survived over the land for several centuries.
During the second voyage to South Pacific Ocean, Capitan James Cook has sighted on this island in the year 1774 and he is the first European to be sighted on that island.
As proposed by John Call, the British government considered the Norfolk Island as one of the auxiliary settlement because of the advantages in the year 1784.
Later few people arrived to the island in the year 1788 and ordered the king to lead the part which has 15 convicts and also 7 free men for controlling the island and to make it a ready for commercial development. After that, Norfolk Island has gone on developing.
Norfolk Island is located in northern and the eastern hemispheres with the coastline of South Pacific Ocean. The extreme points of Norfolk are Mount Bates with 319 m in high and South Pacific Ocean in low.
The official languages of Norfolk Island are English and Norfolk.
