Description of Saint Helena
Saint Helena is an island located in the continent, Africa. The capital city of Saint Helena is Jamestown. Saint Helena has an area of 410 square kilometers with nearly 8,000 people living over the area.
Saint Helena is known to have its historical roots since 500 years. As per the historical accounts, Helena Island was discovered by Spaniard Galician navigator in the year 1502 and they named this island as “Santa Helena”.
One more theory says that the island is found by some ships in the year 1503. It is said to be one of the most isolated islands in the entire world and it has major tactical importance for the ships sailing from South Africa and Asia to Europe.
For many centuries, the island has been used by the British people as a place of exile.
In the year 1657, the English East India Company was granted by the Oliver to govern the Saint Helena.
British ruled the island for many years in the 18th century. They selected this island for the custody of Napoleon and he was brought to the Saint Helena Longwood for lodging him. He died over there in 1821.
Saint Helena has its map routes in southern and the western hemisphere with the coastline in the South Atlantic Ocean. The extreme points of Saint Helena are Queen Mary's Peak on Tristan da Cunha in high and South Atlantic Ocean in low.
The people over the Saint Helena Island speak the official language and that is English.
The culture of the Saint Helena has an influence from many of the European powers during the ships passing through the region.
The religions of the island include Christianity (Diocese and Roman Catholicism).

Here in this island education is compulsory for the children between the ages of 5 to 16 years and it is free too.
